Suction bench with extractor and integrated filters, a technical analysis

Suction bench with extractor and integrated filters, a technical analysis

As already discussed in other articles of our blog, the suction bench is an ideal solution for safety at work, in order to reduce as much as possible the chemical risk, preventing fumes, and dust from being dispersed in the working environment.  In fact, the plane of support of the suction bench and the front, through the holes or the spaces between the slats, sucks the particulates before they are airborne in the working environment.

Typically the suction bench is necessary for processes that produce fumes and dust such as:

    • sanding metals or composite materials
    • metal grinding and surface treatments
    • welding metals, composites or plastics
    • deburring and metal scraping

The suction bench as seen from the video below, in order to be able to work in efficiency must have a diffuse air flow both on the worktop and on the front wall, otherwise the correct collection speed is not guaranteed and fumes and dust must be dispersed.

This flow value normally expressed in cubic meters per hour, is guaranteed by the centrifugal fan or extractor that in most systems is usually installed outside the suction bench, together with the filters, with the typical problems of the suction systems: pipes, fittings, chimneys and bureaucratic management. To solve these problems, new completely independent bench models have been developed, ready to use with simple connection of electricity and compressed air if required.

The suction bench with extractor and integrated filters, an innovative solution

To avoid the operating difficulties described above and typical of the suction benches with external filtration, we have designed a compact suction bench equipped with an integrated extractor and filters on board, making it independent of suction systems and for this reason very flexible as possible application in the workplace.

This suction bench is proposed in two different lines, depending on the type of application and the frequency of use:

SBV series with progressive clogging filters SBC series with pneumatic cleaning filters
banco aspirante per fumi polveri con ventilatore e filtri integrati
The suction bench with filters with progressive clogging should be used in case of processes that produce fumes and a small amount of dust, such as welding and small burrs.

Pocket filters are to be replaced periodically when clogged, the duration is in function of the working hours and the type/ amount of dust present in the cycle.

This suction bench is ideal for a non-continuous use, for example in maintenance departments or at the end of the line for the recovery of defective parts.

Advantages: quality/price ratio, also available in sizes from 1 m in length.

The suction bench with pneumatic cleaning filters is designed for high quantities of dust in continuous service, such as sanding, deburring or other surface treatments.

Cartridge filters are continuously regenerated by integrated compressed air cleaning (manual or automatic) and for this reason should be replaced only after long periods.

This suction bench is ideal for intensive use even on multiple shifts, both in metal processing and with composite materials.

Advantages: long filter life and increased filtration efficiency (99%)

Complete the suction bench with the right accessories

In addition to the standard equipment each suction bench can be completed with a series of extra equipment in order to make it perfectly integrated into the customer’s production cycle. Below we list the possible equipment:

  • High efficiency HEPA filter in ejection
  • Wheels instead of feet for easy handling
  • Clean air exhaust silencer in environment
  • Foldable side bulkheads, fundamental to “contain” fume and dust
  • Front bulkheads and side bulkheads with anti-drop mesh
  • Scratch resistant strips on worktop
  • Ceiling light for lighting
  • Predisposition for clamp fixing

In conclusion, which extractor to choose?

Even if every professional reality has unique production needs, the advice is to analyze the possible application of the suction bench within its context and then answer the following questions, in order to center as much as possible the correct product:

    • Dimensions and weight of the parts to be placed on the suction bench? This value is fundamental to define bench measurements and worktop thickness.
    • Type of machined parts and composition of materials, for example only steel? Also aluminum? This data is important to understand if potentially dangerous powders are developed.
    • Frequency of use of the suction bench, so as to understand if a model with progressive clogging filters can be sufficient or if you need to invest on the type of bench with cleaning air filters.

If you have clear ideas and answers to the questions above your suction bench is very close to being precisely defined so as to make the correct investment.
